Faith in the Workplace: Understanding Religious Accommodation Obligations
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations to employees’ sincerely held religious beliefs and practices, unless doing so would cause an undue hardship. Approximately two years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court changed the standard employers must meet to demonstrate undue hardship in religious accommodation cases. Since that decision, there has been significant increase in employee requests for religious accommodations—such as schedule changes, flexible breaks, and dress code exceptions.
Join us for our July Roundtable as we break down employer’s obligations under the updated undue hardship standard and explore recent case law interpreting this evolving area of the law.
