DOL’s New Salary Threshold for Exempt Employees
On April 23, 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor published a final rule to increase the salary thresholds for “white-collar” exemptions (e.g., executive, administrative, professional) and highly compensated employees. The standard salary level for “white-collar” exemptions will increase in three phases from the current $684 per week ($35,568 per year) to:
- July 1, 2024: $844 per week ($43,888 annually)
- Jan. 1, 2025: $1,128 per week ($58,656 annually)
- Beginning July 1, 2027, salary threshold increased every three years to reflect current earnings data.
In light of this significant legal update, we are shifting our focus for next month’s NIRMA HR Roundtable to address the new rule and steps NIRMA-members can take to prepare and manage this change effectively.
