In-House Claims Administration

Since 2001 the administrative responsibilities of investigating and resolving property and liability claims has been an in-house function. This is a beneficial service, as it gives NIRMA instant access to information and provides our member counties with a more expeditious means of having their claims resolved.

In 2004 workers’ compensation claims administration was added as an in-house function. Like the property and liability adjusting department, the workers’ compensation adjusters work closely with member counties to ensure appropriate care is provided for injured employees in order that they can recover and return to work as quickly as possible.

Claims department staff have the authority to settle claims in the amount of $25,000 or less. First Party property loss payments, payments mandated by statue, final judgment or any other legal process in excess of $25,000 must be timely reported to the Claims Committee each committee meeting. Liability or workers’ compensation claims that involve settlement and payments exceeding $25,000 must first be presented to the Claims Committee for their consideration which will then provide a settlement recommendation to the staff.
