Thanks to all NIRMA Members who were able to attend the 2026 Annual Self Defense for County Officials Conference. We truly Got Ahead of the Game! Here are answers to some of the most common post-event questions we’ve received so far:
- I missed the QR code with John Baylor’s 10 lessons – how do I get those? They will be in the post-event materials sent to you via email in the coming 30 days.
- Can I get one of the photos from the conference for our social media page or website? Absolutely! Please contact Brandy at the NIRMA office 402.742.9220.
- Is there a recording of the sessions that I can share with others in my county or agency? The conference is not recorded.
- Can I get an extra copy of the materials to share with others in my county or agency? You bet! All attendees will be receiving a drive of electronically stored materials from all the sessions within 30 days. Remember, conference materials are proprietary and are for NIRMA member use only. But this will allow you to share information with others in your NIRMA member county or agency that couldn’t be there in person at the conference. If you are looking specifically for the MUTCD Guide, contact NIRMA’s Road Safety and Loss Prevention Specialist KC Pawling, as he is tracking the distribution of those.
- I registered but was unable to attend. Will I be billed? Although we are proud that there is no registration fee for the conference, because we incur fees with the venue for those who cancel late or no-show, the policy of the NIRMA Board of Directors is that no-shows and late cancellations (after October 15) will be billed a fee of $75. These invoices will be sent out within 30 days of the event and are due upon receipt. If you couldn’t attend due to illness or emergency, contact the NIRMA office and ask to speak to Brandy.
- When do press releases go out about dividends? Will our photo appear in the local newspaper? All dividend photos, award winner photos, and accompanying press releases will go to the Nebraska Press Association by noon on October 25. Within 24 hours of receipt, the Press Association distributes the information to a primary contact for each of print newspapers in the state. It is up to the staff of each individual newspaper to choose to publish the photos and press releases.
- I have feedback about the event, who do I contact? Call the NIRMA Office at 402.742.9220 and staff will assist you.
- How do I claim my continuing education hours from attending? In the front pocket of your attendee binder is a sheet that specifies how many hours were approved by various credentialing entities for various county job roles, and general instructions for how to claim those hours. This sheet should be signed and preserved by you as your proof of attendance. Here is a summary of continuing education hours available:
- Law Enforcement/Corrections, 9.2 hours – you must report your own hours
- Attorneys, 9.2 hours (regular/traditional, no ethics hours) – NIRMA will report your hours in the platform within 30 days of the event
- Treasurers, 8 hours – you must report your own hours – wellness sessions were excluded from credit
- Assessors, 5.5 hours – NIRMA will send a list of attendees to the State Property Tax Administrator. You must report your own hours to that state agency – be sure to check the sheet in your NIRMA event binder to know which sessions were excluded from credit.
- Highway Superintendents – the credentialing agency will contact you via email once it determines which categories of hours are available.
- District Court Clerks, 9 hours – you must also report your own hours, but NIRMA will provide a list of attendees to the credentialing state agency.
- Human Resources staff: 6 hours of HR-related sessions are available and likely qualify for SHRM and HRCI recertification, but NIRMA is not a credentialed provider. You must enter your hours ad hoc.
- The NIRMA team towel gift looks nice, but what should I do with it? It’s a microfiber cooling towel, so it’s great to take to the gym for your next workout. Roll it up, wet it down with cold water and place it on the back of your neck on a hot day after mowing the lawn or while watching outdoor sports. It also picks up dust easily so is a good addition to your cleaning caddy for the car or the house. Or, you could always just hang it up on the wall in your office to show your NIRMA pride!
- When are next year’s conference dates so I can save them on my calendar? October 21-22, 2027!
