We want to advise you NIRMA has made a decision to cancel our October 1-2, 2020, Self Defense for County Officials Conference scheduled in Kearney. While it was a difficult decision to make, we strongly feel it is the appropriate one given the ongoing COVID-19 activity in many parts of our state at this time and the uncertainty of developments in the months ahead.

We had hoped that by this time we would be seeing a decline in the number of virus cases reported and the easing of meeting restrictions, but instead we have been seeing increases in infections in recent weeks. This, coupled with the state’s current Directed Health Measures significantly limiting group size gatherings and implementing other restrictions and requirements, weighed heavily in our decision. Most importantly, we are mindful of the health and safety of our member officials and employees and did not want to create a situation that potentially could be harmful.

In place of our conference, we plan on soon offering a series of monthly webinars. These will address a broad range of timely topics and expect to feature attorneys Pam Bourne, Rob Keith, David Dudley, NIRMA loss prevention specialists Chad Engle and Terry Baxter and others as presenters. More details will be shared with you at a later date

We trust you will understand and support our decision to cancel the conference this year. Again, we felt it was in the best interest of our membership. We remain hopeful that by next year the worst of this pandemic will be behind us and so we are already planning and looking forward to our 2021 regional seminars in April and our Self Defense for County Officials Conference in the fall.
